Thrice steps into his room, closes the door, and takes a deep breath. “It’s good to be back home,” he thought as he stepped into the retreat while flipping through Abel’s dossier. He shakes his head as he reaches for the filing cabinet, “To tired to read through all this, maybe tomorrow.” As Thrice closes the filing cabinet he hears a familiar voice, “God it feels so good to be back in this wretched city.” Thrice turns to see Wrath right beside him, he was wearing royal clothing with no armor yet his crown still remained. Thrice looked to Wrath to discover that the crown was slightly off center but when Thrice went to comment on it Wrath just slightly adjusted it. “I know I know,” Wrath said while adjusting it, “I’m still getting used to the slight difference.” Thrice nodded, “It was for our safety.” Wrath waved his hand, “Again I say I know I know. If we didn’t gods know what Dio’s bitch of a mother would do to us.” Thrice pushes the morbid thoughts aside as he sees Temperance leaning in the doorframe between his room and the retreat.
“Safety is all we can ask for, no matter how temporary,” Temperance says as he walks into the room.
“I suppose,” Wrath casually says while he fiddles with the crown, “still wouldn’t mind facing that bitch and giving her what for.”
Both Thrice and Temperance look at Wrath. Wrath just smiles and puts his hands up, “As much as I would like to I know that is not an option, I know when I’m outmatched.” Thrice takes a sigh of relief, “Good, don’t need you going to crazy on me now.”
Wrath just smiles, “That doesn’t mean I won’t have any fun along the way, like back in D.C.” as he speaks blood starts trickling out of Wrath’s nose as if to mimic Thrice’s fight with the kid. Before Thrice could comment he heard a small whimper from his room. Thrice looked past both Wrath and Temperance to discover Innocence curled up on his bed crying. “What’s wrong with the little one,” Thrice asks as he walks to his room.
Wrath chuckles, “Him? He’s been like this since the park. It’s pathetic.”
Temperance looks to Wrath, “He is but a child, show some sympathy.”
Wrath scoffs, “Heh, makes since considering who he is made from.”
Thrice does his best to ignore the conversation behind him as he approaches Innocence. Thrice reaches out to Innocence, “Hey buddy, you okay?” Innocence just moves away from Thrice while saying nothing.
“He is scared,” Temperance says while next to Thrice.
“Of what,” Thrice asks.
Temperance looks to Thrice, “You.”
Thrice, shocked, looks to Temperance then to Innocence, “I…guess I can understand that.” Thrice then tries to approach Innocence again, “Listen buddy, I know you’re scared. I know I am, and was. I know I did a bad thing to that kid but you have to understand that if I did not do what I did he wouldn’t have stopped.”
Innocence looks to Thrice with tears in his eyes, “Batman doesn’t kill people Kirk.”
Thrice, hurt, feels his head hang low, “I know he doesn’t, all I can ask is for you to forgive me.”
Innocence sniffles, “Do you promise you won’t do it again?”
Thrice looks to Innocence, “You know I can’t promise that.”
“Why,” Innocence slightly raises his cracking voice.
“Because the world is full of dangerous people buddy, some who are a danger to us…and a danger to Allison.”
“Ah, so are we finally gonna talk about that,” Wrath asks as he steps up to Thrice.
Thrice looks to him, “Not now,” Thrice then turns to Innocence, “I hope you understand.”
Innocence slowly nods his head, “I think it’s wrong but I understand.”
Thrice smiles as he opens his arms for Innocence, “Good.”
Innocence hugs Thrice, “Just be careful Kirk.”
“I’ll do my best.”
Wrath grips Thrice’s shoulder, forcing Thrice to look at his still bloody nose, “We should do it again, gods I felt so alive at the park. That fucking kid deserved it.”
Thrice looked at Wrath, “I will not do that again until I feel it is necessary!”
“You think you can-”
“No,” Thrice cuts Wrath off, “I know what I can do! And I will not have YOU telling ME what I can and can’t do. Understood?!”
Wrath’s blood slowly fades as he nods.
Thrice composes himself, “Good.”
“So,” Innocence pipes up, “can we talk about Allison?”
Thrice looks to Innocence and smiles, “Of course buddy.”
“You’re happy about being with her, that night really did you some good,” Temperance looks to Thrice as he smiles.
“I am and it did, but I’m not exactly sure what me and her are. As of right now we are just to people who happen to like each other,” A big smile crosses Thrice’s face, “honestly I can’t help but feel happy when I think about that night.”
“Because you know she cares,” Temperance states.
Thrice nods then looks to Wrath who is just standing there quietly.
Wrath, noticing Thrice, speaks, “I’m staying out of this since you are obviously very happy with this woman.”
Thrice smirks and nods, “Thanks.”
Wrath sighs, “I’m just glad to be back in this city, fuck D.C.”
“Yeah, seems the only good thing that came out of that trip was THAT night and meeting Samuel,” Thrice says.
Wrath, Innocence, and Temperance nod.
Wrath then grows somewhat angry, “Fucking Ramses though, after our trip, AFTER Samuel told us to trust each other more, he goes and hides shit from us with that page.”
“Maybe it was nothing,” Innocence says.
“Oh, so you trust him now,” Wrath turns to the child.
“I…never said that. Just trying to keep hope,” Innocence says as he backs away.”
Thrice interjects himself between the two while eyeing Wrath, “He may be hiding something but now is not the time to start this again. Right now The Embers need to stay together now matter how we feel about each other. We have to many enemies to be bickering between each other.”
“Kirk’s right, and at least we received a dossier on Abel now,” Temperance states.
Wrath grumbles, “I hate it when you’re right.”
“At least now we will have a better chance tracking down the bastard,” Thrice says as he clenches his fist.
“Then we can focus on those Seers,” Temperance says to Thrice.
Thrice nods, “It’s about time to go on the offensive, just need a bit more planning.”
Wrath smiles, “At least we will see more action.”
Thrice nods, “I suppose, but right now I need some sleep. Need a clear mind to continue my investigation on Abel.” With that Temperance and Innocence disappear. Before Wrath could vanish Thrice grabs him, “Wait, we need to talk.”
Wrath, puzzled, looks to Thrice, “Okay?”
“I just…wanted to…thank you for the talk back in D.C. at the hotel.”
Wrath smirks, “Uh…hate to break it to ya Kirk but I don’t recall us ever talking in D.C.. Granted most of the trip was alil fuzzy except for the park.”
“What? But…but…I saw you…we talked,” Thrice was practically at a loss for words.
Wrath just smiles as he begins to vanish, “Now don’t YOU go all crazy on me.”
As Wrath vanished Thrice fell onto his bed while gripping his head, “What the fuck?!” Hours later Thrice finally fell asleep hoping that the next day will bring more answers and less questions but he expected the opposite.
