Opening Old Wounds and New Festering Ones
The Night of the Halloween “Party”
Thrice slowly closed the door, either to make sure the last of the guests were leaving or to see if she was still there. After the door was shut Thrice began to take off his costume, the chain mail slid off his skin and he placed it atop his dresser very carefully. A moment later Thrice was in his sleepwear and that is when he heard Wrath speak, “Twas a most interesting night.” Thrice turned to see Wrath step out from behind the punching bag but he was wearing normal clothes, but before Thrice could say anything Temperance and Innocence also stepped out. Temperance had his hood up, therefore he was in his sackcloth clothing and Innocence was in a Spider-Man costume. Thrice looked puzzled at the three of them. Wrath waved his hands nonchalantly, “We decided that since you wanted to dress up we might as well, by the way love the costume. I dare say I could have a twin.” Thrice just sat in his bed, Wrath’s words just seemed to bounce off of him since other things were on his mind. Wrath appeared next to Thrice. Thrice just looked up at Wrath, “So…what the hell was that tonight? Where did those feelings come from?” Wrath just held up his hands, “I know not, twas not from me or these two.” Thrice just sat there and stared at his floor, “This feels all too familiar…” Temperance appears on Thrice’s other side, “Now Thrice, let us not go down this train of thought. We were doing so well.” Temperance says this because he knows what Thrice is thinking about, his high school life. Thrice’s mind wonder to past events: judging eyes, high school drama, and then there was her. Before her face came fully into focus into his mind, Thrice began to cry.
Wrath threw his hands up, “Oh great, just great. Now we are back to square one.” Thrice’s tears blurred his vision as he looks to the other three of him. Chest hurting, Thrice stood up and headed over to the punching bag. Thrice held the punching bag with his left hand and hit it over and over again with his right hand, “It’s…just not…fair!” Innocence appeared above Thrice on some Spider-Man string, “Thrice, don’t be like this, remember what happened to you? You were worse off because of your feelings for her. You just need to not think about it or her.” Thrice looks up confused, “Wait, which she are you talking about?” Innocence just smirks and says, “Yes.” Thrice looked a little irritated but sighed, “So just like everyone has told me, just be myself.” Innocence nodded. Wrath appeared next to Thrice, “Yes, and when you do this you could have anything or anyone you want,” with that Wrath began to change. He began to take the shape of Galena, or at least her head. Thrice grew very irritated and swatted at Wrath who then disappeared, “Do NOT do that again!”
Wrath laughed, “I guess you have new buttons to push, this should be fun.”
Thrice rubbed his eyes as he looked around his room. He sees his fixed wall and photo, his punching bag, and his chain mail costume. “Maybe there is something there after all,” Wrath whispers into Thrice’s ear. Thrice slightly blushes at the thought, “Maybe she was just being kind.”
“Or maybe it was something more,” Wrath continues.
Thrice grips his head in both hands, his brain racing to fast even for his magic. “I…I don’t know.” Wrath just smiles at Thrice, “Well then I guess you will just have to find out then.” Thrice slumps back down onto his bed. “Maybe.” With that Temperance and Innocence disappeared while Wrath just stood next to the bed. “You will find out Thrice, you deserve to know after everything we have been through.” Wrath slowly fades away as Thrice closes his eyes and delves into his escape from the pain of the past and the uncertainty of the present, his mind. One can only hope tomorrow will be a brighter day.
